Exciting news! Club sign up for All Stars Cricket 2019 is now live!
All Stars Cricket is the first step in the national pathway for cricket and is a key part of the ECB’s mission to “Inspire a generation of young people to forge a lifelong love of the game” by developing welcoming, inclusive, family friendly environments in clubs. With fun at its heart, the programme aims to inspire children aged five to eight to take up cricket, provide a great first experience of the game and engage with a new audience of potential volunteers.
How All Stars has helped clubs?
Once again, tens of thousands of boys and girls played cricket for the first time last summer thanks to All Stars Cricket.
More than 59,000 children took part in the programme across England and Wales with over 1700 children participating in the initiative sessions across 48 different clubs in Somerset.
Overall the programme had the following impact:
- Increased numbers of kids participating at this age group
- 70% of participants were new to cricket
- 97% of parents considered the programme value for money
- Siblings of All Stars joining other age group teams as players
- Parents signing up as players
- New volunteers helping with All Stars
- New volunteers outside of All Stars
On top of these impacts below is some feedback from clubs who ran All Stars ove the last two years were:
“The great thing about All Stars Cricket for us was that it was a new & exciting way to attract young cricketers and their families to the club.”
“All Stars increased the profile of the club in the local community. Football seems to have no problem attracting young players so good to buck the trend with the All Stars!”
“We have set up a junior section for the first time on the back of All Stars Cricket. It was fantastic and gave the whole club a boost!”
“Off the field it made a massive difference…. Our All Stars sessions were on Friday nights as this enabled parents to stay longer in the Bar, thus giving a huge boost to profits with this and on our BBQ.”
“75% of the children were totally new to cricket & the club.”
“As part of our youth team cricket we already had some sessions running for under 9’s. All Stars helped us structure this better and increase our numbers through advertising.”
“All Stars helped open our club further in the community. With the help of Chance to Shine we had a great link with our local schools.”
“There has been an increase in bar revenue purely from having more people at the club.”
“As a club, we really thrived on the encouragement to involving parents in the sessions. Parents and guardians no longer came along having a worry about being asked to take part. By the end of the scheme parents were approaching activators to get involved.”

Our support for you!
As with previous years, SCB will provide regular communication and support to clubs throughout the process of setting up your programmes, from recruiting participants to the actual running of your programmes. Please don’t hesitate to contact Matt Counsell, our All Stars Champion, by email on matthew.counsell@somersetcricketboard.org
In terms of some specific support to help recruit new children to the game, we are delivering our largest ever programme in schools this year with a specific focus on key stage 1 aged children. This includes:
- Delivering All Stars Cricket Assemblies and Taster sessions in schools
- Using Chance to Shine funding to deliver ‘roadshow’ sessions in schools
- Providing posters and flyers to all registered ‘All Stars Cricket Centres’
On top of this, the ECB will be running a national marketing campaign, which will be greater than it has been before.
Don’t wait to set up your programme. Ensure you are ahead of the game! From Mid-February onwards, parent sign up will go live alongside the beginning of handing out promotional material to all of the schools that we have engaged with. Therefore, if you want your club to benefit from all of the early marketing it is important that your programme has been created by then.
