Job Overview

Bath Cricket Club is seeking a Head Groundsman with the experience and dedication to take a key role in the preparation and maintenance of all year round playing and practice areas at BCC’s grounds under the guidance of the Director of Cricket. They will also have day to day leadership and development responsibilities for the assistant ground’s persons.

Reports to the Director of Cricket

Core responsibilities of the Head Groundsman include:

  • Responsibility for the preparation & maintenance of all cricket square, grass nets, outfields, grass and non-turf net areas to an excellent standard at North Parade and Brownsword. Prepare the ground for all other events and recreational use as directed.
  • Maintain to an excellent standard the remainder of the ground at North Parade and Brownsword including (but not limited to) the external grass surrounds, sightscreens, scorebox, groundsman shed(s) and entrances. These include car parking, banking at North Parade, Clubhouse patio
  • Present a detailed plan to the Director of Cricket to include pitch/square plans as well as offering proactive ideas to improve all playing surfaces used by Bath
  • Prepare, implement and monitor monthly and annual maintenance programmes to ensure the two grounds meet the club’s objectives in relation to surface presentation. Collect and record data on the playing surface
  • To estimate the resources required for work projects and to make recommendations on the best use of playing surfaces, including producing a costed annual ground budget.
  • A sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations. This will include a sound understanding of legislation relating to chemicals and dangerous substances. Ensure safe work practices are in place all the time. Comply with the cricket’s club Health & Safety policies including all relevant risk assessments.
  • Ensure all equipment is correctly maintained and serviced, keeping an up to date service log. Support the efficient use of resources. Operate equipment as required by the schemes of

Skills/Experience Essential

  • At least three years cricketing experience as a groundsman
  • Groundsman qualification (on the job as well as academic)
  • PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates
  • Awareness of health & safety legislation
  • Flexible in working hours and prepared to work weekends and bank

Hours of Work:

For the purpose of calculating pay the hours are 37.5 hours per week to be worked between Monday to Sunday. More hours will be required to be worked in the summer.
