Super 1s is more than just a cricket programme, it’s a platform that empowers young people to grow, both on and off the pitch.

Each year, Super 1s provides opportunities for participants to develop vital personal and social skills through cricket, alongside a range of unique experiences. This season, 24 young people from the programme will take on an exciting new role as part of a T20 Matchday Activation Team. In this role, they will volunteer at the Cooper Associates County Ground, welcoming fans with a big smile and handing out a key matchday essential  ‘4’ and ‘6’ cards to help bring the atmosphere to life.

To prepare for this opportunity, and thanks to the support of the Lord’s Taverners, we partnered with Young Somerset to deliver essential customer service training. This was followed by interview preparation and practice sessions, helping participants build confidence and develop key communication skills.

The young people involved thoroughly enjoyed the experience, gaining valuable insight into making a positive first impression and learnt how to positively interact with the public in a professional setting.

One parent shared:
“It was great to have the mock interview as part of the process, as this made him nervous, but in a good way as it was all done in a safe environment.”

Programmes like Super 1s continue to demonstrate the power of sport in developing confidence, life skills, and opportunities for young people to thrive beyond the game.
