Somerset Seniors Cricket, supported by Somerset Cricket Foundation, provides competitive county cricket opportunities for players aged 50 and over. With teams at Over 50s, Over 60s, Over 70s and Women’s Seniors levels, there are opportunities for players of all abilities to continue enjoying the game in a friendly and competitive environment.
Alongside regular success in national competitions, players benefit from quality facilities, organised fixtures, social events and the chance to represent Somerset against counties across the South West and beyond.
More about seniors cricket
There is a history of success across all sides. Annually there is strong representation in the final stages of the National competitions, with 50s and 60s sides regularly lifting silverware over the past five years, the 70s 1sts have reached their final and the 70s 2nds won their league in their inaugural season. The Women’s side was formed in 2025 and in 2026 are competing in a new competition against local counties.
There are International opportunities available for the most successful players. Annually, players are nominated for trials in all age groups and a number of current have been capped for their country.
Home games are hosted across the county, always on quality grounds and officiated by qualified umpires and scorers. You will quickly see why Senior’s cricket is one of the biggest growing areas of this sport as playing with and against people of a similar vintage in competitive but friendly games really does feel worthwhile.
The season is the same as all cricket but the games are usually played midweek. The league matches are supplemented by regular net sessions, pre and post season games and opportunities to tour abroad. The social aspects are important to cricket in general and particularly for people of our age. This includes various get togethers at centres around the county as well as visits to the watch SCC play, supported by the SCF.
How to get involved
We are always pleased to hear from those who may be wondering about the future of their involvement in cricket and warmly welcome those who might consider continuing to participate in the game and to defer ‘hanging up their boots’ for a while longer.
