The Somerset Cricket Board College Academy run in partnership with Richard Huish College, has recently got underway again. The College Academy combines excellent cricket coaching for 16 to 18 year-olds with a friendly, supportive, high quality learning experience.
Players are provided with a structured programme of practical coaching, sports science support and fitness alongside an academic education of the highest quality. Former County Ground favourite Keith Parsons leads on all group coaching sessions and, in conjunction with Brian Hoyle from the Somerset Cricket Board, plans the annual programme and ‘Two to One’ coach allocation.
Parsons, who enjoyed 17 highly successful years as a professional cricketer with SCCC, and is now into his 10th year in charge of the programme said of the programme:
“Having run the program for nearly 10 years, the standard continues to improve and the students benefit from five hours cricket each week, all at The Cooper Associates County Ground whilst furthering their education at College.I wish that it had been in place when I went to Richard Huish College all those years ago!”
With open days already having taken place, interest in places starting in September 2019 is high and we look forward to the selection process starting around Easter 2019.
Anyone interested in the SCB programme can register interest either at the college or through the Somerset Cricket Board at info@somersetcricketboard.org.
