Our community coach team has welcomed two new full time coaches over the past couple of weeks; Dominic (Dom) Mayo and Sean Fitzgerald.

Dom joins us from Shine Sports Coaching where he has worked for the past two and a half years, whilst Sean joins us from the Dorset Cricket Board where he has been a community coach for the past three years.

Dom will be based in the north of the county covering North Somerset, South Bristol and North East Somerset. Having been inspired to take up cricket after the 2005 Ashes, Dom (who plays and coaches at Weston-super-Mare CC) is looking forward to driving participation in the north of the county and giving more opportunities to people to play the game. ‘Being able to inspire others to take up cricket and hopefully make a difference to the lives of hundreds of children is something that I am really looking forward to‘. As well as playing and coaching cricket Dom plays rugby and is a vinyl record collector.

Sean will be based in South Somerset (in partnership with South Somerset District Council) and will cover the south and east side of the county from Crewkerne to Frome. Having worked in a cricket board Sean brings his experience with him to help grow cricket in Somerset, and is looking forward to the challenge a new county presents; ‘I’m looking forward to working with a new team, taking cricket to new people and places and being able to offer them opportunities that working in a first-class county presents‘. Sean also coaches at Dorchester CC and loves spending time with his family and dogs.

A large part of Dom and Sean’s roles will be to deliver the Chance to Shine programme in schools alongside disability and Street cricket as well as supporting the club game. During 2021/22 we will deliver cricket in over 150 state primary and secondary schools in Somerset.
