On Sunday 25th July Somerset Cricket Foundation hosted their first women’s Hardball Cricket festival of the summer at Weston-super-Mare Cricket Club. The event, the first in the county to take place this year due to Covid and the weather, was well attended with 4 teams taking part (Midsomer Norton, Lodway, Wiveliscombe and Chard).
Sunday was the first time many of the women had played competitive hardball cricket, and it was great to see so many of them enjoying the game and developing their hardball cricket skills. The festival was a relaxed, fun environment, and it was great to see so many of the players growing in confidence throughout the day. Congratulations to Wiveliscombe who were top of the table with Midsomer Norton and won by one run.
The festivals have been designed to help support the development of the hardball cricket game in Somerset and to allow women the opportunities to play in a competitive hardball format, with the hope teams will enter the hardball cricket league next season.
