The welfare of people in cricket is vitally important so we pleased to be able to share with you information on interim Safe Hands training for Welfare Officers who had training cancelled in March/April or those clubs who haven’t got qualified Welfare Officer.
To be a qualified Club Welfare Officer (CWO) there are three requirements:
- An ECB DBS
- Safeguarding and Protecting Children Training (or Online Safeguarding Young Cricketers Course)
- ECB Safe Hands Training
All these qualifications last for three years and need renewing once three years has lapsed.
If your Welfare Officer had booked to attend an ECB Safe Hands Course which was cancelled, the ECB Safeguarding Team will contact you directly (within the next two weeks) to provide you with access to the:
- Online Safeguarding Young Cricketers (SYC) Course to meet the Safeguarding and Protecting Children Requirement of the CWO role
- Booking link for Safe Hands webinar training. These will run on specific days through the month of June, starting on the 8th, and will be available either mornings, afternoons or evenings to accommodate those with other responsibilities or work commitments.
It is important to have completed the SYC (Safeguarding Young Cricketers) course prior to booking on a Safe Hands webinar if you have already completed the course or a Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course there is no requirement to repeat it.
Please note there are 1100 people who need to go through this training nationally so they will be contacting people in phases.
If your Welfare Officer did not book to attend an ECB Safe Hands Course or If your club does not have a Welfare Officer at present, please email the following details to – matthew.counsell@somersetcricketboard.org:
- Full Name
- Cricket Club
- Email Address
We can then get ECB Safeguarding to register the person so they can be sent the course details
Please note this interim accreditation will be valid for 12 months by which time ECB expect that the usual face-to-face Safe Hands training will be available again.
Any Welfare Officer without an ECB DBS will need to send Matt Counsell the following information:
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- Preferred Email Address
- Club affiliation
Please email this information to – matthew.counsell@somersetcricketboard.org and he will set this up.
If you need you DBS verified the ECB are allowing these to be completed via a video call as opposed to the usual face to face meeting. Again, contact – matthew.counsell@somersetcricketboard.org to arrange this.
