Team Maqbul entertained Taunton Indians in a T70 ball challenge match at North Petherton Cricket Club on Thursday 15th of June.
Team Magbul were presented with their beautiful new playing tops by David Crossman (Voluntary Action North Somerset).
The team looked very smart in the team photo.
Prior to the toss both sides and all officials observed a moment of silence to remember Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley Kumar # WereSomerset cricket family and for those affected by the tragic events in Nottingham.
As for the match itself – Maqbul batted first and posted 78 restricted by some fine bowling and fielding by the Taunton Indians. However Maqbul opener Watif showed tremendous resilience with his batting and held the innings together.
In between innings a shared tea was enjoyed by both teams and some wonderful friends bonds were formed – which was lovely to see.
In reply Taunton Indians were restricted to 64. Again the bowling and fielding was equally impressive and Team Maqbul ran out winners by 14 runs. Both teams really enjoyed the game and would like to play an extended match in the future.
On behalf of the Somerset Cricket Foundation we would like to thank:
North Petherton Cricket Club for hosting us – especially Keith Robertson for facilitating the game.
David Crossman (Voluntary Action North Somerset).
Sarah Coombs (Somerset Activity Sports Partnership) Sports England Together Fund.
Biju Chetah – Taunton Indians CC for arranging this match.
All being well Team Maqbul are looking forward to further games shortly against Richard Huish Cricket Academy and Weston Warriors Cricketers.
