After a complete wash out last week the over 60s sides got off to the very best of starts to the new season.
The 1sts had a comfortable win against Wiltshire by 50 runs. Batting first Somerset reached 168 against a tight attack with Graham Bishop leading the way with 55 the top score of the game. Wiltshire succumbed to the Somerset bowling with Ian Thomas taking 4 for 15. Scorecard Available Here
The 2nds travelled to Torquay to play Devon and again batted first. The majority of the runs came from Hugh Brooker and skipper Miles Richards with 55 and 59 not out respectively, carrying us to a very healthy 219 for 6. That the Devon reply did not get off to a good start would be an understatement, being two wickets down for 3 runs after 4 overs. The Somerset stranglehold continued to such an extent they were 41 for 5 in the 23 over. The innings was closed down with Devon finishing on 118 for 8. Scorecard Available Here
The 3rds also tasted victory by a comfortable 6 wickets. Warwickshire batted first and were always held in check by accurate Somerset bowling with Simon Cruickshank returning 3 for 23 off 9 overs. There total of 133 for 9 should not have been a challenge. After a stutter of 25-2 Somerset reached the total with 8 overs to spare thanks to a nuggety 54 not out from skipper Derry West. The over 70s were on the wrong end of the result against an extremely strong Wales side. Put in to bat our 184 for 6 was thought competitive and based on a well struck 60 from Neil Johnson. With the pitch easing and the outfield drying up Somerset were never really in contention as opener Gwyn Price scored 91 not out of their 185 for 3, although the bowling of Brian Pearson was the stand out with 2 for 32.
