This has been a very frustrating winter across so many aspects of cricket, not least in relation to the normal programme of Workforce Education courses that the Somerset Cricket Board would typically deliver, but also that you would ensure your club volunteers attend.

We have been working hard to provide opportunities for volunteers at clubs to access a reduced programme of education courses that will be available during the summer period. We realise summer time is not ideal for training new coaches but we are also aware of how much built up demand there will be as a result of the cancelled courses this winter.

Please see below further information about the face-to-face education courses that we are planning to run during the summer period:

Foundation 1 Coach course

 The course provides a blend of e-learning and face-to-face modules led by ECB Coach Developers will explore what coaching looks like, the impact you can have as an ECB Foundation I Coach, the skills you can help players to develop and how you can learn from your experiences.
This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to coach cricket sessions that are active, purposeful, enjoyable and safe.

An ECB Foundation I Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision.

With 4 x ECB Foundation 1 courses being cancelled as a result of the winter lockdown, we are pleased to announce that we have been able to re-schedule 3 x ECB Foundation 1 courses to run during the period from the 17th May 2021 to the 30th June 2021.

First Aid courses

 We have welcomed the news that ECB have extended the qualification expiry date to the 30th September 2021 for all First Aid qualifications that have expired since 1st March 2020.

However we are aware though that many coaches will still now need to complete their First Aid renewals before 30th September.
As such, we are aiming to organise 4 x First Aid courses to run during the period from the 17th May 2021 to the 31st July 2021, at venues around the county.
