SCF Major Cup 2023

Bath CC v Bridgwater CC 2nd XI

The Game

The 2023 Major Cup final proved that a game doesn’t have to be high scoring to keep spectators on the edge of their seats.  Bridgwater CC 2nd XI won the toss and elected to bowl, a seemingly good decision as Scrivens, McKegg and Young found themselves back in the dugout before the end of the fourth over with Marshall steadfast at the other end.

Marshall and Ellison crafted a 50 run partnership but Bridgwater’s fielding was exceptional and kept scoring opportunities to a minimum, as wickets fell steadily, and any hopes of a big total leaving when both Marshall and Ellison were dismissed, with only Will Arney offering any kind of defence as Bath were bowled out for 114.

Bath, however, showed their class, and why they have so many WEPL League titles.  The bowlers turned the screw tight, giving away nothing and putting the batters under pressure.  Wickets fell at regular intervals but all that was needed was for someone to push the ball into the gaps and build an innings.

Witts, Skidmore and Pope tried their best but Will Arney piled on the pressure taking 4-0-9-1, and despite the last ditch efforts of Pope and Locke, Bridgwater fell just 6 runs short of the asking.

Player of the Match

Will Arney was presented the player of the match award for his outstanding spell of bowling.
