Next week Somerset’s senior cricketers will feature in both an Over 60s 2nd XI final and an Over 70s final in the National Seniors’ Competitions.  On Tuesday 13 September the 60s travel to Stroud to face Lancashire and two days later the 70s take on near neighbours Devon at Taunton Deane CC.

Both matches, which have 12:00 starts, come at the end of an impressive season not only for our finalists but for the 60s 1sts and 3rds – the latter reaching a semi-final while featuring in their competition for the first time.

Seniors’ cricket is described as the fastest growing category of social cricket and with age groups starting at 50+ those who might have thought about ‘hanging up their boots’ have the opportunity to continue playing for many more years.  Cricket for all abilities is offered and with the highly enjoyable social side to matches, the attraction to those who love the game and want to continue an association with it, is self-evident. For now, let’s wish our ‘elders’ all the best as they compete to win some silverware for Somerset.
