In only it’s second year, the U16 Somerset Smash was badly affected by the weather, but the prospect of playing on the Coopers Associates County Ground for the first time inspired teams to play in difficult match conditions, and improvise by playing 50 ball games to get them completed.

15 teams started the competition, and we’re down to our final two teams.

route to the final

Bridgwater booked their place in the final with a comprehensive victory over Claverham, Tom Fursland taking 3-8 to limit Claverham to 47 off their 50 balls, and then Tom Ford hit 29 off 18 to help his team secure their finals day outing.

Taunton St Andrews saw off defending champions Deane Dragons on their way to the final, before beating Ilminster in the second semi-final.  Ilminster’s Francis Caswell hit 51*, but a solid batting display from Thomas Rew and James Matravers allowed the Saints to win by 6 wickets and progress to the final.
