U19 Club T20 2023
Deane Diamonds vs Lansdown Lions
The Game
The Coopers Associates County Ground hosted the U19 Club T20 final on Friday 1st September for the second time in a repeat of the 2022 final. With only a few changes between both teams from the previous year, hopes were high of another high quality final.
The Lions won the toss and elected to field first, which seemed to be a good decision as Rao was dismissed off the first ball of the innings. Ged Williams-Pritchard and Dupont settled the ship but some big hitting from the Diamonds captain Chaffey helped team confidence as he took a distinct liking to Arthur Trotman.
Chaffey retired having hit 52 off just 41 balls, and with good support from Alex Chaffey and Cobb, the Deane Diamonds posted 142/7 from their 20 overs.
Lansdown Lions captain Noah Davis intended to lead from the front, hitting 37, whilst he lost two partners quickly, 2022 player of the match Praneel Choughule came to the middle hitting a potentially match winning half century to show that Deane Diamonds were going to have to work hard to get the win.
Once Henry Trotman was dismissed run out the game was Deane’s for the taking, and some exceptional bowling from Salt, Johnson and Nelson turned the screw and the Lions fell agonisingly short of their second title in as many years as their innings closed on 139/6.
Player of the Match
Player of the match was awarded to Josh Nelson of Deane Diamonds for his death bowling.
