As part of the Windrush Legacy 76 event this season SCF encouraged wider engagement of the community regarding the Windrush story and the wider connections with the Caribbean. SCF offered over one hundred Primary Schools access to an assembly/PHSE resource pack and an opportunity to take part in a Windrush poster competition.

SCF would like to congratulate Sanford Primary School (Hasting class), Winscombe on submitting the winning entries.
Mrs Momber-Blake class teacher said “that during the summer Term, Hasting Class learnt about Bristol’s role in the transatlantic slave trade and the lessons that the city learnt. During this topic, they also learn about the places of the Caribbean and the legacy of Windrush. The resources and competition sent through by Somerset Cricket Foundation really enhanced the children’s learning and allowed them to make links to other areas of their learning (quite a few children in the class are Somerset fans). This meant that they were able to see how the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade and Windrush still influence on today’s life, rather than just being something that has happened in the past.”
Scott Chappell SCF Schools and Coaching Manager would like to add his congratulations to Sandford Primary School for taking part in this competition. The school will also receive a cricket kit bag.
In addition, over one hundred flyers were distributed to young people at the SCCC Family Day to engage them in a Master Blaster Sir Viv tee shirt design competition. In recognition of Sir Vivian Richards legendary status. SCF would like to congratulate Isobell from Shipham near Cheddar for her winning design. She wins a signed SCCC shirt. We were delighted to meet Isobel and her family at the Vitality Cup Finals Day in Birmingham to do the handover. Isobel’s mother Sarah said she really enjoyed designing the shirt. Mustafa from SCF was really impressed by the way she incorporated the Antiguan flag and the Somerset Wyvern and the text Master Blaster and Richards into her design.
Steve Gass Community Engagement Manager would like to thank everyone who took part in both competitions and hoped they enjoyed learning about the Windrush Legacy.
SCF would like to thank Waterstones for providing vouchers for the schools’ competition and SCCC for providing the shirt for the Tee shirt competition.
