Somerset Disabled CC S9 battled hard against Cornwall Disability XI but ultimately went down by 47 runs in their National Disabled Cricket League S9 Regional Group C fixture at Childs Clarke Ground, Ilton.

After winning the toss, Somerset chose to field, with Cornwall posting an imposing 220 for 5 from their 30 overs.

Cornwall’s innings was built around some excellent attacking batting. Giles retired not out for a superb 50 from just 21 balls, smashing eight fours and two sixes, while Dan also retired not out after an impressive 53 from 35 balls, including seven fours and a six.

Mark added a valuable 37, while Archie finished unbeaten on 10. Somerset’s bowlers continued to battle throughout, with Paul taking two wickets and Cameron claiming one. Cameron also contributed brilliantly in the field, effecting two run-outs.

In reply, Somerset found themselves under pressure early on, but Alex provided some much-needed resistance with a superb 46 from 47 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. George also battled well, scoring 26 from 37 balls.

But once again, it was Cameron who provided the fireworks.

Coming in during the Somerset innings, Cameron smashed an outstanding 59 not out from just 21 balls, launching seven sixes and three fours in a sensational display of power hitting.  This is the second game in a row that Cameron has smashed 50 off only a few balls.

Cameron’s incredible hitting gave Somerset a late surge and provided a brilliant finish to the innings, although the team eventually closed on 173 for 9 from their 30 overs.

Cornwall’s bowling attack was led by Giles and Archie, who both claimed three wickets, while Max and Dan also picked up wickets.

Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Somerset to take from the game. Alex’s determined 46, Paul’s excellent bowling spell and another breathtaking batting display from Cameron all provided plenty of encouragement.

The team will take confidence from the fight they showed throughout the match and will look to build on these performances in their next fixture.
